The Waldorf School of Jordan delegation made a remarkable impact at the 23rd Annual Amman Model United Nations (AMMUN XXIII), held from November 20–24, 2024, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Amman, Jordan. As the only THIMUN-affiliated Model United Nations conference in Jordan, AMMUN attracts hundreds of students from prestigious schools worldwide, offering an unparalleled opportunity to debate critical global issues.
This year’s conference, themed “Amplifying Action,” emphasized the importance of taking proactive steps to address global challenges and amplifying the voices of marginalized communities. Our delegation embodied this spirit with unparalleled enthusiasm, preparation, and commitment, cementing our reputation as one of the most outstanding delegations at the event.
A Delegation of Excellence
Our team of over 20 delegates represented countries across a diverse range of committees, addressing some of the most pressing international issues. From the Arab League to the Security Council and the International Court of Justice, our students were recognized for their leadership, diplomacy, and tireless contributions to the conference.
Here are some of the key achievements that made our delegation stand out:
Unmatched Leadership in Resolution Drafting: Waldorf delegates served as the main submitters of over 18 successful resolutions, with some forums—like the Arab League—dominated by our delegates, who submitted every resolution considered.
Dynamic Participation: Whether drafting amendments, making motions, or raising points of information, our delegates displayed a deep understanding of parliamentary procedure and critical thinking. Some even raised fearless (yet respectful) points of order when necessary.
Bold and Thought-Provoking Questions: Our students made their mark at the opening ceremony by asking challenging and insightful questions of the keynote speaker, demonstrating their confidence and grasp of global affairs.
Excellence in Debate: In high-stakes forums such as the Security Council and Historical Security Council, our delegates engaged in extensive debates, negotiated vetos, and successfully averted hypothetical wars.
Judicial Prowess in the ICJ: Two of our students served as judges in the International Court of Justice (ICJ), where they deliberated on significant cases including Gambia vs. Myanmar (2019) and Iran vs. The United States (2016). Their ability to analyze evidence, question advocates, and deliver judgments was highly commended.
Widespread Recognition: While AMMUN does not offer individual awards due to its THIMUN affiliation, Waldorf delegates were frequently praised for being among the most prepared, diligent, and positively contributing participants in every forum.

Forums and Topics Addressed by the Waldorf Delegation
Our students engaged with a broad spectrum of complex global issues across multiple committees, demonstrating their ability to tackle pressing international challenges. In the Arab League, they addressed the political and military crises in Libya and Sudan while also focusing on the Syrian-Jordanian border dispute. The Economic and Social Council explored solutions to the global clean water crisis and sought ways to promote gender equality in Sub-Saharan Africa. Within the Environment Commission, debates centered on sustainable practices in eco-tourism and the environmental impacts of genetically modified crops. The Security Council managed critical geopolitical conflicts, including the Taiwan confrontation and ongoing instability in Haiti. Meanwhile, the Historical Security Council reexamined pivotal moments in history, such as the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the Gulf of Tonkin incident. Lastly, the International Court of Justice deliberated on high-profile international legal disputes, including Gambia vs. Myanmar and Iran vs. The United States.
Building Skills, Leadership, and Global Citizenship
Participation in AMMUN XXIII provided Waldorf students with invaluable opportunities to develop essential skills such as public speaking, critical thinking, negotiation, and collaboration. Beyond the procedural rigor of Model UN, the conference served as a platform for our delegates to broaden their perspectives and connect with peers from around the world.
One of the standout features of AMMUN is its focus on diplomacy and collaboration rather than competition, which aligns seamlessly with the values of the Waldorf School of Jordan. Our students were praised for their integrity, empathy, and commitment to meaningful dialogue—traits that reflect the heart of a Waldorf education.

The energy of the debates was incredible. It was amazing to see how our ideas came to life through the resolutions we drafted and passed.

The Legacy of AMMUN XXIII
As the AMMUN XXIII theme, “Amplifying Action,” reminds us, diplomacy is about more than just words—it’s about meaningful actions that create real change. Our Waldorf delegation exemplified this ethos by going beyond expectations, pushing the boundaries of debate, and representing their school with pride.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our delegates, supervisors, and the AMMUN organizers for making this experience so enriching. It is through initiatives like these that the Waldorf School of Jordan continues to foster global citizenship, critical thinking, and leadership skills in our students.
