Waldorf Approved as a Pearson Edexcel Centre for International A Levels

Earlier this term, the Waldorf School of Jordan received official approval as a Pearson Edexcel Centre for International Advanced Level (IAL) assessments. For our community, this is a meaningful milestone—one that expands what is possible for students academically, and strengthens the range of credible, internationally recognized pathways available at Waldorf.

Many families already know Waldorf as an authorized AP and SAT test center, and we have shared how carefully we approach the responsibilities that come with externally moderated, high-stakes assessments. If you would like to revisit that earlier milestone, you can read our announcement post Waldorf Joins the College Board: A Milestone Achievement.

This new Pearson Edexcel approval does not replace our core American-curriculum program. Instead, it supplements and strengthens it, giving students and families more flexibility as they shape personalized academic journeys aligned with individual strengths, learning styles, and university goals. In other words: not “more for everyone,” but more appropriate options for the students who need them, at the moment they need them.

A SPECIAL EMPHASIS: ARABIC LANGUAGE IAL

For our community, one of the most exciting aspects of this approval is that we expect our first cohort to include students planning to sit the Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Level in Arabic Language. This matters on several levels. The Arabic IAL provides a rigorous, internationally recognized framework through which students can demonstrate advanced proficiency—whether Arabic is a first language, a heritage language, or a subject of deep academic focus.

Just as importantly, this development stands as a clear affirmation of the strength and seriousness of Waldorf’s Arabic language program, and of our commitment to continuing to develop it thoughtfully, academically, and with cultural depth.

WHAT “CENTER APPROVAL” ACTUALLY SIGNALS

Becoming a Pearson Edexcel approved center (using Pearson’s official terminology: Centre approval) is not a label a school simply adopts. It follows a careful review of institutional readiness—leadership structures, assessment systems, examination security, and operational stability. In practical terms, it signals that the school has demonstrated the capacity to administer and safeguard high-stakes international assessments responsibly and to required standards.

This kind of external validation matters to families because it confirms—not through marketing language, but through independent review—that a school’s academic systems are credible, robust, and internationally legible.

Readers who are interested in Waldorf’s broader approach to quality, standards, and continuous improvement may find it helpful to explore our Cognia-related reflections, including: Our Cognia Accreditation Journey and Balanced Assessment That Informs Instruction and Curriculum Decisions. These pieces speak to the “how” behind the headlines: how we think about assessment, what it’s for, and how we use it to strengthen teaching and learning.

PATHWAYS, NOT PRESSURE—GUIDED BY FIT AND COUNSELING

At Waldorf, expanding academic offerings has never been about increasing pressure or narrowing definitions of success. Our goal is to provide clear, credible pathways that respect student individuality, developmental readiness, and long-term wellbeing.

With AP, SAT, and now International Advanced Levels available through the school, students gain more than an additional credential. They gain a stronger chance of finding the right-fit pathway for their goals—supported by a counseling structure that emphasizes thoughtful decision-making, sustainability, and alignment rather than speed or volume. As we explore in Beyond the Classroom: How Waldorf’s University & Career Counseling Program Shapes Future Leaders, this guidance work is central to how we help students navigate choices with confidence and clarity, especially as academic options expand.

WALDORF STUDENTS, IN FULL: SERIOUS ACADEMICS AND A LIVED SCHOOL CULTURE

For prospective families in particular, an important point can sometimes get lost in announcements about examinations and qualifications: at Waldorf, academic rigor is never pursued in isolation. Our goal is not only to prepare students to perform well on assessments, but to help them grow into young people who are articulate, grounded, capable, and meaningfully engaged with the world around them.

This balance—between serious academics and a rich, participatory school culture—is especially visible in our high school. Students are encouraged to develop voice, leadership, and a sense of responsibility beyond the classroom, whether through academic competitions, collaborative projects, or student-led initiatives. A good example is Waldorf Leads the Way at AMMUN XXIII!, which offers a glimpse into how students bring critical thinking, confidence, and global awareness into real-world settings.

At the same time, Waldorf’s understanding of excellence is deliberately broad. We believe that strong academic outcomes are most sustainable when they are supported by a healthy school culture—one that values wellbeing, balance, and the whole child. Readers interested in this aspect of our school may also find Waldorf: Healthy School Accreditation a meaningful lens through which to understand how care, health, and high expectations coexist at Waldorf.

Together, these stories reflect the environment in which our academic programs—including AP, SAT, and now International Advanced Levels—are embedded: a school culture that takes learning seriously, without losing sight of the human beings at the center of it.

LOOKING AHEAD

As with every major step at Waldorf, we will move forward thoughtfully. Our first IAL registrations will be focused, carefully supported, and handled with the same seriousness and care that guide our AP and SAT testing programs.

We are grateful to our students, faculty, and families for the trust and partnership that make milestones like this possible—and we look forward to the opportunities this added pathway will open for our learners this year and in the years ahead.
